The Pack Rat

The Pack Rat is a local favorite. It’s a homey collectibles store that is sure to have something of interest. It’s a great place to purchase quality, locally-made products for family and friends as souvenirs of your trip to Freedom.

Towns like Belfast, Unity, Augusta, and More

Belfast, just 30 minutes away from Freedom, is a picturesque Maine coastal town, complete with plenty of places to eat, coastline to enjoy, and a quintessential New England aura. Augusta is Maine’s capital and holds any number of stores to visit. And Unity, with its farms, alpaca experience, Amish stores, and winery (that is so much more than just a place for wine!) is on your way to Waterville or Bangor.

The Lost Kitchen

The Lost Kitchen is an internationally- famous, from-scratch, restaurant located in Freedom. If you’re able to secure a reservation, you’ll have a dining experience you’ll never forget. And for a minimal fee, Chuck or Lynn will drive you to The Lost Kitchen, and pick you up afterwards, so you can imbibe without having to drive.

Beautiful Maine Lakes and Hiking

Freedom offers many outdoor activities including  hiking, canoeing, fishing, biking, and just going for a leisurely walk without any traffic or noise. Check out this list of best hiking spots near Freedom, or simply turn right out of Halcyon Ridge’s driveway and take a leisurely walk down a flat trail, or leave the house by the sliding door in the back, and wind your way amongst our 130 acres of forest.

Stone Tree Farm and Cidery

Located in nearby Unity, the Stone Tree Farm and Cidery is a wonderful place to try various wines made and distilled on site, and to enjoy outdoor games, lush scenery, and their newly renovated barn  for indoor comfort and ambiance.

Common Ground Fair

If you’re planning on staying at Halcyon Ridge in the Fall, you’ll want to check out the Common Ground Fair in Unity. This fair is a super-popular attraction hosted by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and aims to educate about and advocate for organic agriculture, illuminating its interdependence with a healthy environment, local food production, and thriving communities.
